Who is eligible for Psychologist’s Services under Medicare? – Patient Information
Medicare rebate is available for a maximum of 10 psychology services per patient each calendar year from General Practitioners.
Medicare rebate has been extended due to COVID-19 pandemic for a maximum of 20 psychology services per patient.
A patient must have a GP Mental Health Plan.
Your GP will decide whether you would benefit from these services and if so, will refer you for appropriate services.
Are all patients eligible?
You may be able to claim Medicare rebates for psychological services if you have a medical condition that is being managed by your GP under GP Mental Health Plan.
Medical conditions eligible for the Plan are (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, substance abuse, psychotic disorders. There is no list of eligible conditions. Your GP will make that decision.
Once you have a GP Mental Health Plan in place, you can be given a referral for psychological services each. Only GP can decide whether you should be referred for these services, and the number of services required.
Ask your GP about eligibility for Medicare rebatable psychological services.
